a hot situation

Fungi as well as bacteria live on the skin although in smaller numbers. About 150 species of fungus live on your feet, around 60 of them on your nails and 40 between your toes. Trichophyton rubrum prefers to live between the fourth and fifth toe, where the pressure, moisture and temperature are highest.

help on the way

Trichophyton rubrum can cause athlete’s foot between your toes or result in a case of fungal nail. Luckily, not all those who play host to this fungus are bothered by these problems. The human immune system fights against the fungus and is helped by other microbes that curb the growth of Trichophyton rubrum.

footwear combats fungus

Athlete’s foot is so named because many people who do sports are affected by it. There are lots of fungal spores in busy changing rooms and showers. Wet feet provide the ideal nursery for spores to grow into fungi. Footwear will reduce the risk of infection.
